Experience

David has over 30 years playing experience and has been teaching drums for over 15 years. All lessons take place in the Lothian Drum Tuition custom built teaching studio. All drum kits are acoustic and consist of Pearl Studio Masters and Pearl Masterworks. Students have come for lessons from as far as the Orkneys and cities such as Liverpool.

Student Info

After a few years of lessons at Lothian Drum Tuition, many students go on to play in bands and some go on to play drums in theatre production shows

This is 14 year old David Mark, current student of David Farquhar who has been studying pipe band drumming and drum kit since he was 10 years of age. David achieved two 1st places from both adjudicators at the World solo drumming juvenile section 2 qualifying heat in 2011.

Styles

Rock, Swing, Latin, Funk and Pipe band drumming are the main styles. However there are many other types of drumming styles to learn, depending on the interests and demands of each student

• Correct stick grip
• Rudiments
• Reading studies
• Hand / Foot Technique
• Snare drum pieces
• Grooves and Fills
• Rock School graded 1 - 8 exams are held at selected exam centres and certificates are sent to Lothian Drum Tuition around 2 weeks after the exam date. Drum students will have the opportunity to sit the exam when ready. The exam will last 20 minutes
• SQA Examination board pieces for School standard grade to Advanced higher level:- Drum Charts provided along with play-along cd

Rock School Exams

The Pass mark for the Trinity rock school exams is 65%. All students that has studied with David since 2001 has gained over 80% in their exam with the majority achieving over 90%
